Readers’ Theatre
A theatre script is a story. A story is a magic carpet to ride on, into imaginary worlds and cross over into experiences beyond our own. In the crossing, we could meet up with many of life’s wonderful sensations like; joy, laughter, even fear, and many other emotions; some may even bring a tear to your eye.
Readers’ theatre is a way in which to present a story. It’s a narrative that’s read aloud, through dialogue, to touch the imagination of the listeners where it becomes a unique and personalized tale. The listeners experience the story from their own perspective and in that way, almost become co-creators in the adventure.
In short, readers’ theatre is for readers and listeners. It’s a style of theater in which the readers, each taking on a single character in the story, present dramatic readings of narrative anecdotes without costumes, props, scenery, or special lighting. The readers use only scripts and vocal expression to help the audience understand the story.
