The Writers’ Nook is a place where we, as a group, can provide a safe and positive environment in which to encourage one another and hone our own writing skills.

Haiku and Senyru

Have you tried writing Haiku? Basho, a 17th century Japanese poet said, “Haiku is simply what is happening in this place, at this moment.”

This meeting was be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23rd, Blind Bay Time (aka Vancouver Time).

If you would like to join some of our meetings, just send us an email and we’ll send you a link.

THE CHALLENGE to carry on throughout the summer:
Write a minimum of 30 Haiku or Senyru during this summer. (The plural of Haiku/Senyru is Haiku/Senyru) The bigger challenge: write one per day, or 7 per week.

Karen’s done it; and she says a peculiar increase in vocabulary awareness occurs. It’s okay to feel frustrated with the first few, but just play, you’ll find it fun. Write what you like. You are your most important audience, and these Haiku are for you.

OR FEEL FREE TO write whatever you want. Please send the pdf files to me as you normally do. We will not be meeting throughout the summer but I will keep posting our work.

YOU ARE ENCOURAGED to continue to provide feedback to all of us.

  1. I liked your Haiku’s Kevin 😊 Especially the one about dandelion wishes 😊 Well done!!

  2. Great haiku’s, Karen. That slimy, slithering fellow gave me a surprised laugh. And now, unfortunately, I will forever have a visual link between infinity and the kitchen dishes, LOL. Nicely done.

Lovely imagery in your haiku’s, Phillis. That last one, wow, poignant. Clap-clap.

  3. Great that so many made efforts to attempt the not quite easy to write Haiku. Though I suggested one per day I carry full guilt on not reaching that goal. 🙂 What happened to summer?

There are so many wonderful thoughtful Haiku here, I don’t know where to start with comments except kudos to you all and I hope it was helpful.
