The tears streamed down her face. Why is it raining today of all days??? Vicki had been planning her special wedding event for over a year. Plans now had to be changed and the venue greatly reduced due to the worldwide pandemic of Covid 19.
Today was her wedding day and now everything was ruined! Why is this happening?? The guest list had to be reduced from 150 to 50 people and that had certainly been a major challenge due to her large family. After much deliberation, it was decided to have a small wedding at her parent’s place. The reception had to be changed from an elegant venue to an area under the covered sundeck.
The curtains were pulled back to display the pouring rain. Why today? Why now? Shortly her Mother came into the bedroom wearing her special dress. Vicki put on her wedding gown with the help of her best friend. The veil was carefully placed over her hair which was pulled into an upsweep and pinned carefully to stay that way. Vicki looked absolutely stunning. She slipped her feet into her new beautifully embroidered red shoes which were a wedding gift from her Asian in-laws as part of their culture. She quickly smiled at their beauty and picked up her bouquet.
Vicki gingerly headed to the top of the stairs. She floated down them, her head in a spin. It had been hastily arranged to continue with the outdoor wedding as a break in the deluge of rain magically took place. The Wedding Party quickly took their places and their vows and rings were exchanged. The newlywed couple walked hand in hand back up the very wet path together. She did not care that her wedding dress was dragging on the rain soaked ground. Vicki glanced at the pathway and the dripping wet decorations with ribbons drooping and flowers rain tossed. However, her spirits had brightened and now she was happily married to the love of her life!!
The Bride and Groom proceeded to the Reception Area and sat down at the beautifully decorated head table. The rain started up again but this could not dampen the love and laughter. The toasts proceeded as the guests wished the couple a bright future. Even despite all the problems they had encountered regarding this particular wedding day, the desire of the couple to be together and share their lives was ultimate. As the old saying goes “Love Conquers All”. Vicki and her husband held hands and looked at each other and smiled. Getting married during the pandemic would certainly be a day to remember!!
