I am a stranger,
Threatening all that you hold dear,
You don’t dare open your door,
You’re paralyzed with fear.
You don’t know who I am,
You tell me to keep my distance,
I could be from anywhere,
China, Italy, the U.K., or France.
You can shut down all of your borders,
But that won’t work, it’s already here,
We must fight this global war together,
We must put aside our fears.
We’ve been taught to be suspicious and wary,
Of strangers who hide their faces with masks,
But it’s actually the friends who get too close,
Who accidentally help the virus complete its task.
Remember to thank all of the health care workers,
Every day, putting their lives on the line,
Making sure that most of us make it,
Making sure that we will be fine.
Give a wave to the tireless truck drivers,
Bringing the essentials that we desperately need,
And a smile to the grocery store workers,
Making sure that we all will succeed.
I know that some may be wondering,
Do we need all of this shutdown fuss?
Simply follow Dr. Bonnie’s sound advice,
The solution depends entirely on us,
If you’re unsure of what you’re allowed,
And not allowed to do,
Just be kind, be calm and be safe,
We’re all depending on you.
